About Outdoor Activities

Another wonderful aspect of life in Los Barriles is that there is something for everyone. If you are the outdoorsy type, you will be very active as hiking, bird watching, fishing, kiting, windsurfing, swimming, and snorkeling are widely available to you.

You might also enjoy taking the ATV/quad down the arroyo to visit the waterfall or other local sites. If you have family members or friends visiting, you can always take them on a whale watching tour nearby or go horseback riding.

New residents are encouraged to participate in local groups and help out with the local animal shelter, join an art cooperative, or help with nesting sea turtles and we found doing this was a great way to learn more about our community and make new friends. Los Barriles is also within driving distance of some hidden Baja gems—Cabo Pulmo Marine Park with outstanding snorkeling and diving and the old silver mining towns of El Triunfo and San Antonio which provide wonderful photographic opportunities.

Whale Watching

Nestled between two great bodies of water, the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, the constant access to a wide array of sea life is amazing. Whale watching is a popular activity and while you’re on the water you are also likely to see manta rays, sea turtles, dolphins, and whale sharks. This magnificent creature spends summers in the waters off of Alaska and then heads 6,000 miles south to the warmer lagoons of Baja in January, February, and March.
